About : The History and Activities of NIT Durgapur

The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India (formerly the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was established in 1960. NIT Durgapur is one of the oldest of 14 RECs established between 1959 and 1965.

Admission Process and Reservation

Admissions to undergraduate courses (Bachelors programs) at NIT Durgapur is through the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE). There are a few seats for NRI(Non resident Indian) and DASA students. Admission to graduate programs (Masters programs) requires competitive scores in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and National Institute of Technology MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) for the MCA program.

27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 15% for Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (STs).
