About : The History and Activities of NIT Agartala

National Institute of Technology, Agartala was founded as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and upgraded to NIT in 2006.

The College was started with courses in three traditional branches of engineering, namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta and later to the Tripura University, once it was established. After the enactment of the NIT Act the institute has become an "Institute of National Importance" and will shift to a new campus presently under construction.

HOSTELS

The institute has 4 boy's and 2 girl's hostel and one another hostel for freshmen only. Currently hostel facilities are available to the students from outside the state only. A huge construction is going on around the hostel Campus to make hostel-living required for all the students.
