About : The History and Activities of NIT Jalandhar

The Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar popularly known as NIT-Jalandhar is a leading premier autonomous university in northern India was founded in 1987.

The institute offers BTech program in nine disciplines of Engineering and Technology along with research programs leading to M.Sc., M.Tech., and PhD. 50% student intake is from Punjab and the rest from other states/union territories of the country.

As of 2010, the institute has 7 male hostels and 2 female hostels that have a capacity to accommodate around 2000 male and 300 female students respectively.

Admission to the Undergraduate and Post graduate programs

The admissions to the B.Tech Programs (undergraduate programs) run by the institute are by the All India Engineering Entrance Examination AIEEE. The admissions to the M.Tech., Programs (post graduate programs) are by the GATE exam conducted by the IITs and IISc. Post Graduate admission is on the basis of previous research and interviews.

Placement record

Many Indian and foreign MNCs offer jobs to final year students of B.Tech and M.Tech programs. Almost 100% of the students of the institute get placed each year with a number of students grabbing multiple job offers.
